Call In Your Prayer Requests!

Today I'm giving thanks for the opportunity to pray with many people, as this week is the first anniversary of a phone Prayer Line I launched in April of 2020. At that critical time, the call could be Covid-related--but it didn't have to be. Callers could give their name or remain anonymous. I offered to pray with them about any request they might have. No obligations, nothing to buy or join. No personal information required. On this one-year anniversary I have some thoughts about the Prayer Line...and about PRAYER itself.
Due to some heart surgery, my call-in ministry has been "shut down" for about eight weeks. I missed many calls during that time, and I regret that. But now I'm recuperating on schedule, thanks to God and an incredible host of praying people: family, dear friends, and some who didn't even know me. So I aim to open the Prayer Line again this Monday, April 12, "D.V." (which is an abbreviation for the Latin words, "Deo Volente," meaning "God Willing;" James 4: 13-17).
Posted at the top of this page is the number to call (931-388-3608) and also the days and times I'm committed to pray with you (or someone else you'd like to tell about this). Any time I'm off this schedule, I'll try to leave a voice mail message telling when I'll return. If the posted hours are not good for you, just give me a quick call and tell me what would work better; I'll arrange to be at the phone at that time.
We all know that vaccines are more accessible now and the Covid crisis has eased, even though there are still precautions required in certain places, and the pandemic is not "over." For many, a slow-down of the virus creates the feeling that prayer is not as necessary as it was a year ago. It makes me think of words written by an old Army veteran: "When war is on and death is nigh, God and the soldier are all the cry. But when war is over and peace is sighted, God and the soldier are quickly slighted."
Yet the truth is, in many ways we need prayer right now MORE THAN EVER. Our world is in crisis. Our nation's foundations are crumbling before our eyes. People are struggling with finances, health issues, marriage problems, moral and ethical violations, and more. If you or a friend is passing through a time when prayer is needed, I'll try, in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus, and with the Bible as our guide, to intercede in prayer for each caller.
When Jolene and I were at the Seminary in New Orleans we often attended evening services at the First Baptist Church of that old city. One of the most memorable parts of those worship times was when they dimmed the lights in that huge sanctuary and had a Call to Prayer. It would always begin with the great choir singing, "All Your Anxiety." I still remember the song and how encouraged I was, often very deeply moved, as they sang "All your anxiety, All your care, Bring to the mercy seat, Leave it there. Never a burden He cannot bear, Never a friend like Jesus." Two struggling seminary students and others around us were inspired and uplifted by those wonderful times of prayer! In fact, after a somewhat sleepless night during my recent post-op time, that song came back to me and ministered greatly to my soul.
Maybe you just want someone to praise the Lord with you over a breakthrough or victory you've experienced. Maybe you need guidance with a decision. Maybe there's a sin or sinful attitude that you can't seem to conquer. Maybe you mainly need to hear a comforting voice, or have someone hear YOUR voice. Some time ago I read about an ad in the paper that said, "I will listen to you for 30 minutes, without interruption, for $100." In such a time as ours, it's not surprising that the person who sent in the ad made A LOT of money! Well, I will also listen to you AND pray with you--and there'll be absolutely be no charge!
So if you're needing a trip to the 'mercy seat'--that place in the meeting house during Bible times where believers experienced the glorious presence of the Lord God--I'll do my best to help you get there.

Amen Brother Mike! I thank God for your Spirit of Love for Kingdom work. James 5:16 (KJV)
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. You have been praying for me and my family for well over 25 years. Even before my deployment to Kuwait in 2003.
Mike, I know you talk to God and I believe God talks to you.
Prayer Still Works!
