My favorite uncle is dying!

He's been sick a long time. In fact, for several years I've requested prayer for him about this time of year--the week of his birthday. But my request is more urgent now than ever, because he is sicker than ever. In fact, he is dying before my very eyes. I say he's my 'favorite' uncle, and he is. I've honored him and respected him since I was a boy growing up in a family where we always admired him, even when he showed his 'feet of clay.'

Of course I'm speaking about my uncle and yours, Uncle Sam...the nickname for our U.S. Dear old Uncle Sam is surely sick to death, and the only cure is a prescription found ...in the Bible! In fact, I read this 'Rx' earlier today in a plan I'm using to read through the Bible. It's a prescription I mentioned in something I wrote during the initial days of the corona virus pandemic; now again today it jumped off the pages of God's Word at me.

Uncle Sam is not just sick with a deadly virus that appears to be heading into a second wave. He is sick with a disease of the soul. As we experience another birthday of our nation this week, we need to not only celebrate, honor and respect our 244-year-old Uncle, we need to fervently PRAY for him. Pray for God to heal our land spiritually. This would result in a nationwide healing racially. And politically. And generationally. And economically. AND PHYSICALLY!

A true spiritual revival involves repenting of our sins, believing in and following Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, giving the control of our lives to the Holy Spirt, and seeking God daily on the pages of His Word. If we do this, the elusive healing that's being sought will certainly be found. So here's that clear prescription; it was first given by God Himself to the nation of Israel, coming out of slavery in plagued Egypt--but I believe it is for anyone, including UNCLE SAM:

"If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases on you that I put on Egypt, for I am the Lord your healer." (Exodus 15:26 ESV)
